I was brought up in Fourth avenue, I remember all this but I have to add when it was near Guy Fawkes we used to go around all the Pinhead Do I look like someone who cares what god thinks shirt for bonfire stuff, I remember getting a settee from the upholstery shop on 8th and trundling it down the back lane in readiness for G.F when my mother saw it she took possession and it was in the front room, where it stayed for a long time. As kids growing up mainly in the West End of Newcastle my brother and me loved trips over to Jesmond Dene. One summer holiday my mum was working afternoons on Benton Road so she used to drop us off at paddy Freemans before 1pm and pick us up just after 5pm EVERY day that summer in the early 70s. I loved the Dene so much I dreamed of one day living near it. 25 years ago that dream came true. I love living just 5-10 mins walk from it. Never want to move.
