Every day, brain pickings is a place to come and read intelligent thoughts, and engage with interesting ideas and people. So, to everyone who feels the Obama called me Clinger Hillary calls me Deplorable Terrorist call me Infidel Trump calls me America shirt to come here today and spew hate: why are you even here? There are million other places to go online where having a brain isn’t required. What’s funny is the people that talk the loudest in these comments don’t even bother to listen to the video, probably don’t even read the articles either. SMH, it’s so funny because what THINK or the media TOLD YOU TO THINK is said isn’t. hahahaha, keep on being quick to speak, slow to listen. This is the silliest argument I’ve ever heard from Dr. Dyson. And I like this brother. But the President does not distribute resources to the states. It’s done by Congress. That’s why we elect them. They bargain, fight, make deals, and compromise with one another to decide who gets what. No president can singularly distribute gov’t resources to any particular group of people. They all have to deal with Congress. So, what exactly did Latino people get from Obama? What did gay people get from Obama? What did Jewish people get from Obama? And what were black people asking for that Obama could have given them? I understand that the expectations of the first black President from the black community would be high. But we also have to be realistic in terms of what a President can do within the powers of the office.
Dr. Dyson was getting mad applause. His argument sounded intelligent because he’s such a good orator. But in reality he wasn’t saying much . I would like to know from those shouting hallelujah at that table beginning with Dr. Dyson, followed by Cornell West, and then Tavis Smiley what they would have done differently than the President keeping in line with the limitations of presidential power. What Obama did for blacks in this country, is he showed them if he can become President, then they can achieve anything if they work towards it. When he became President i was not looking for a handout from him. I was being represented just by him being at the table. The bottom line is we as a race have to come together and be better, no one can do it for us.
